Life as a Navy Wife
I asked my wife to write a little something about her experiences as a Navy Wife:
Life as a Navy Wife
Hey yall my name is Bekah..I'm Jovans wife. Jovan and I met in December 09 and married in April 2010..yes everything happened pretty quick but we couldn’t be happier. I moved up to Virginia in May 2010.
I'm pretty new to the Navy wife lifestyle. Ive enjoyed the experience although it does have its ups and downs.
The first time Jovan left was for two weeks on a ship. Being alone in a different state with no friends or family and no husband was pretty lonely/boring at times. Luckily we had just bought a new puppy so I wasn’t totally alone. She kept me busy. There was very little communication when he was on the ship. He was able to call me twice. As of now Jovan is deployed to Bahrain. I came back home to Texas to be with our friends and family. Yes I get sad that he is gone and miss him a lot but I know that he isn't at war so that makes it a little easier. He is on land and able to call me everyday and skype occasionally. The internet sucks over there so ususally skype doesn’t work. When Jovan is home its awesome!
As you’ve read were from Texas so being up north in Virginia is a neat experience for us. Theres lots to see and the beach is beautiful compared to Galveston beach back home. Summer time is the best. We live close to the beach so we go as often as we can. To me.. Its like being on vacation! We love it!
A little advice to being a Navy wife would be…. If your spouse is sailing the sea or deployed…keep your phone on you all the time! You don’t want to miss his/her call cause more than likely you wont be able to call him/her back. Try not to make big plans for vacationing if you know that he/she is eligible to deploy anytime.
J-RoCK!

My boyfriend of four years is now joining the Navy. I'm nineteen and he is twenty one. I'm really struggling with this all because he brought up joining and now is joining so quickly. Is it wrong for us to marry so quickly, granted we have been dating for fur years and there are benefits to going into the miltary married, but ho the heck do you deal with it? Gah. Thanks.
In my opinion your still young. Dont marry yet just for the benefits in the Navy. Im not trying to sound negative but most people that are in the military and get married that young most likely dont last. Have yall lived together before?
Hi! Oh geez! I'm so excited to find some one in a similar situation as me and my boyfriend.. My name is Michele.. Im from AZ and so is my Sailor... he's stationed in Bahrain right now as well.. He left a few days before Halloween 2010 and won't be back until December 2012... all I have to say is "THANK GOD FOR SKYPE" I don't know what we'd do without it..
I remember viewing a long distance relationship video Jovan posted a while back right before my boy friend Adrian left for boot camp.. that was May 3rd, 2010.. and I remember those months prior to him leaving I had to make a choice.. being it that we only knew each other a little over 4 months and fell in love quickly.... but I was previously scarred by another LDR so I was so nervous about doing it all over again.. but I made the choice to stand by him.. and forget my insecurities.
Today.. I could honestly say I made the perfect choice.. we have remained strong and kept our communication open.. I also tried that notebook thing you all had going back and forth on that video Jovan made... I can't seem to find it anymore though... but I have learned a lot about being a navy girl friend and I try to help support other NGF's when they are going through difficult times.. as you may know... support from those who are going through or have gone through it is most helpful and important.. I have my youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/luckyshelly06?feature=mhum where I try to post issues I run into as they come.. lately my camera is acting up so haven't been able to do any recent ones.. One cool thing that just happened tonight was that my video on my page "Sailor surprises his mom" received an email from the show "Coming home" and they want to use it on their next show.. so thats pretty exciting... thought I'd share that.. but I have some questions for you.. What forms of communication do you use to talk to your husband and which work the best?? I know what you mean about the internet sucking so bad there.. ugh and lately its been really bad.. have you found any new ways of getting a better signal other than him getting their "high speed internet" they offer that really doesnt work very well... Do you send him care packages? What does he find as his favorite items and needs? hmm ok..
I hope to hear back from you soon... :)

When women enjoy shopping, most of them don’t like the shopping advice-the watch chosen by you is her favorite.
