Questions From You

I get questions all the time from deppers awaiting bootcamp. Here is a few questions and answers just in case you might have a similar concern.

Q:

"Is it a lot of studying or is there a lot of hands on training. I think he wants helicopters, that's what you chose right? Do you get to choose? Can I take that stuff to PIR or should I mail it to him? Just wondering. Thanks for answering. Your videos have given me some comfort and I've been able to write my son some of the advice you have offered. "

-Chris and Teresa Todd

A:

"A school is very easy. He shouldn't have a problem with it at all. There is a mix between hands on and studying. The instructors will make him get some flash cards for study material. Well that's what they made us do. I'm not too sure what PIR is. Either way mailing is the best bet. Just wait for him to give you word on when to send it. He'll know when its a good time."

Q:

"Got a cpouple of questions. Navy VS Air Force which do you think is better and why? Im also thinking about doing master at arms in the navy, is that a good choice? Why or why not.. Thanks!"

-Alexia

A:

"I dont know why girls are always choosing to pick master at arms... I guess its the handcuffs. haha.
I think its a good job if you are interested in the police force field. you will be doing a lot of patrolling
or standing guard.

Air Force might be a good opportunity but it depends what jobs they offer you. What ever branch you decide to go in to, just make sure you pick a job that you can do in the civilian world that will give you a better chance of a good career.

For example, some people like the thought of being a gunner's mate because you get to shoot all of the big guns. Yeah that sounds cool at first but what are you going to do with that experience when you get out the military? Be a freakin' gun cleaner?

You cant go wrong with anything in the medical field, electronics/computer, engineering, nuclear. Im sure you can look up what ever job they give you and see what civilian jobs are offered."

-JRoCK

Q:

"First, thanks for the candid videos. I have enjoyed them. You are the same rate as my son is going into. He is currently in his 3rd week at boot camp. He wanted me to find out some info on A school. He's going to Pensacola for training in AD. Can he take his XBOX and laptop? How much free time will he have? Can he wear civillian clothes? Any other tips you can offer me to send on to him? He's grad n go with like 2 hours after PIR till he has to be at the airport. So sad. Anything you could tell us would be great. Thanks."

-Teresa

A:

"Hey there Teresa!
I hope my videos have put some type ease to your mind as far as what navy life is going to be like for your son. You need to really stress drinking alcohol. That has ruined a lot of careers.

Yes he can bring his laptop and xbox to pensacola. When I was in Pensacola I had my parents send a bunch of clothes my laptop and xbox. His stay in Pensacola will be anywhere from 5-7 weeks. He should have plenty of free time but there will be curfew. I'm not sure what it is now but its nothing he wont be able to handle

Hope that helped! Thank you for visiting my site"

-JRoCK

Q:

"When I was thinking of the Navy I looked on YouTube to find some info and I saw your video's.

I am DEPed in and leave in December. My rate is a YN. They didn't have much choices but honestly I just wanted to be in the Navy to be truthful. No matter what i did. Have you dealt with any YN's and were they a bunch of corny people? looking into it hopefully I can get a security clearance within this rate. What is their rep among the shipmates?

Thanks for your info that you've provided about what you thought on the navy. it has helped.

later

-Javier

A:

"Hey Javier,

Personally I think being a YN is a good job. You will be doing paper work for the high ups like the CO, XO and other officers. You will have the opportunity to make yourself look like a squared away sailor in front of them. YN's have a pretty good rep. People should treat you good because you are the one that will give them their mail and do their leave/vacation paperwork. As long as you take pride in your job and know it well I think that is a good opportunity for you.

Hope my info was helpful!"

Hopefully these email questions have answered some that you might have had.

Are you on deployment overseas now?

Hey,
I joined in March and took DC but I'm training to test for Air Rescue. Do you know anything about the training for that. I know there is a lot of physical requirements, but I'm more concerned with the jobs. I will have to change to a Aviation job. I was interested in AO or AE what do you think of those rates?

Hey I was recently thinking bout joining the Navy, I was wondering what type of questions the recruiter will ask, because in one of your vids. you say they give you a lie detector test, so just a bit confused haha.

hey man i have been thinking about joining the navy because because i've been having a hard time deciding what career i want to go into, and caring about school lately so i figured being that i graduated in 08 and im still confused about what i want to be, that i should join one of the military branches to help discipline myself, but i have a couple questions that concern me
1) Glasses/contact lenses, i personally where contacts because glasses suck and feel awkward, do they force glasses on everyone who needs them before and after bootcamp?

2) this question is awkward but i have IBS so i can feel the need to crap a few times a day or once and it's a must do when the time calls and i'll be on there for 30mins bc of that damn disorder, so during training do they treat you like a child and make you ask for permission, allow bathroom use at a certain time thing or do they just let you do what you gotta do when you gotta do it?

hello, Jrock, i would just like to say, "Thank you." your videos do help ease a little fear about the navy. i signed december 9th and my basic date is august 3rd. i signed on as an intelligence specialist. sadly, i can't find too much on the rate because everything is highly classified. i guess i have to start my navy life to figure it out for myself. i'm a little nervous about boot camp - not gonna lie. i'm not really out of shape or anything, but i'm not necessarily IN shape. by that i mean that i'm 148 lbs and 5" 9" - skinny. my cousin said that boot camp was actually really easy and he gained around 20 lbs. what did you find was the hardest part of boot camp?

Another thing...idk if you would be able to answer this question but...how are BLACK females allowed to have their hair at bootcamp? Are braids allowed as long as they are above the collar...and by braids I mean platts? Can they have in fake hair as long as it is in a short cut or do they just have to get their natural hair cut?

Yo, been watching your videos they seem to be pretty informational. Couple of questions if you dont mind. Im going to be an AM and my A school is in pensacola, any tips on the area or what i can have shipped to me? I was wondering about my cell phone? i read about laptops and sht like that. I leave for boot camp May 6th. Thanks for the info.

Hey man, I have been following your videos for over a year now.I have been thinking of joining the Navy for the last year.I been to one recruiter and visited him like 5 times.I am having a problem though. I am prior service. I was in the Army reserves. The reserves do not give DD 214's,they give separation papers. My recruiter keep telling me that he doesn't know what to do with my paper work without a traditional re-code on these separation papers. The funny thing is, when I go to a navy reserves recruiter they know exactly what to do. The navy reserves sailors do not get a DD214 either. So, you might not be able to answer this, but any advice.I really want to go to the navy. I'm going to call another recruiter tomorrow actually.

Oh, I almost forgot, what career might I want to choose if I want to avoid war, and avoid going to Iraq?

Your videos are awesome. i have looked on youtube for navy life and all that, and your vids were the most informative, the rest were all stupid. Anyways, what do you think about choosing to be a chef/cook in the navy? I haven't enlisted yet, i am justing looking at my options. College right now seems so worthless and a lot of useless work. Keep posting more vids, they are such a great help.
